CONTENT
The course provides an introduction to what stainless steel is, which types and alloys are commonly used, and the most frequently occurring forms of corrosion affecting stainless steel. Considerations when selecting the appropriate stainless steel grade are addressed, along with methods for preventing corrosion in stainless steel components. Precautions related to welding and handling are also reviewed. In addition, joint details, bolts, contact with other metals, and surface treatments are covered.
The course is generally based on a wide range of practical examples where things have gone wrong, as well as illustrative examples of correct application of stainless steel. Regulatory design requirements are touched upon – including certain pitfalls in the standards – although detailed calculation formulas are not reviewed. The focus is on recurring problem areas associated with the use of stainless steel.
Stainless steel is a very extensive subject area, and therefore this course provides participants with essential basic knowledge that is absolutely necessary in order to select, specify, and execute stainless steel solutions correctly.
