This document is intended as a background report. It gathers and discusses relevant background information, interrelated topics such as the assessment of existing steel structures, initial concepts and proposals for reuse, and references to established standards and guidelines. The aim is to support future standardization activities by identifying important issues and knowledge gaps that should be addressed when designing reclaimed steel components for reuse. Readers should be aware that this report does not contain final recommendations or design rules. Instead, it reflects the current state of knowledge and discussion at the time of writing and is intended to serve as a foundation for further work. While it goes beyond a pure state-of-the-art overview by outlining potential directions for future standardization, it remains an exploratory document.
