Corrosion

Why does steel corrode? Most materials and compounds are not constant when used and subjected to the surrounding environment. They decompose into more stable compounds of the elements they are made of.

Timber decompose when subjected to moist and bacteria, plastics age get brittle and decompose under influence of sun, temperature and atmosphere. Metals and metallic materials corrodes.
