Acoustics and Dynamics

One of the most important requirements from users of building constructions is good acoustic and dynamic properties. People will not be disturbed by their neighbours from the adjacent apartment and not from the traffic noise from outside.

There are different framing systems in steel for residential hosuing. Apartment separating walls with a double framed light steel studs gives best acoustic performance. Shaftwalls can be performed with a single framed wall with special acoustic profiles. Light steel framed flooring is a relatively new concept. It has proved a good acoustic performance and the dynamic properties are fulfilled for medium sized spans.
It is a major ongoing research worldwide in order to find solutions for long span light weight floors. The SBI takes part in this research. It is very important to consider the total acoustic solution as flanking transmission and tightness between the building components.

Traffic noise from railway bridges has been studied at the SBI and the result thereof is that the sound emission from railway bridges is of the same level for steel bridges as concrete bridges.
