The Swedish Institute of Steel Construction, SBI, is an independent institute financed by a foundation, Stiftelsen Svensk Stålbyggnadsforskning, industry and national and international research financiers. The members of the foundation are companies active in the area of steel construction.
The Swedish Institute of Steel Construction has a unique position with support in the steel construction industry as well as within the academic world. We combine the front line of research with practical experience and by that means contribute to an increased knowledge of the possibilities of steel usage.
Independent handbooks produced at SBI gives the possibility to plan, design and build more efficiently with steel.
By means of textbooks and seminars SBI contributes to an increased knowledge of steel as a structural and building material.
Via own media, seminars and articles in trade press SBI informs about steel construction and related news.
By means of a membership of Stiftelsen Svensk Stålbyggnadsforskning you have the possibility to, for a small input with large gearing, take an active role in the development of the conditions for the market where you are operating.
Objective
The objective of SBI´s activity is to contribute to efficient use of steel in constructions and building systems. This contributes to an increased steel-usage and hence creates conditions for increased competitiveness for the members of the foundation.
