Outokumpu is one of the world's leading stainless steel producers. AvestaPolarit was formed in January 2001 from the merger between Avesta Sheffield and Outokumpu Steel, and it was launched with the vision to be "Best in Stainless".
AvestaPolarit has production plants in Finland, Sweden, the UK and the USA, and can offer service to customers worldwide through its own broad sales and distribution network. The Group has an annual stainless steel melting capacity of about 2 million tonnes, increasing to 3 million with the completion of ongoing expansions 2002-2004. AvestaPolarit employs around 9,000 people, and reported pro forma net sales of about EUR 3 billion in 2001. AvestaPolarit offers the most comprehensive range of steel grades and product forms of any single stainless steel supplier and its wide range of value-added products is complemented by extensive customer support and services.
