Module 5 - Cross-sectional resistance, includes methods for determination of the load-carrying capacity of beams without influence of global instability such as buckling and lateral torsional buckling. The content covers rolled beams and small welded beams with influence from axial force, bending moment, shear force or concentrated local forces and interaction between these. For large welded beams complementing information might be needed. Torsion is only treated for box girders.

Module 4 - Global Analysis. gives methods to determine internal forces and moments. Elastic analysis according to first order theory is assumed to be known and is not discussed in the book. Analysis according to the theory of second order effects is discussed with focus on how to treat imperfections. Plastic hinge theory is fully covered regarding methods and conditions. The module also discuss the use of FEM for non-linear analysis combined with verification of the load-carrying capacity.
